The Difference Between A Water Conditioner And A Water Filter
By: Matthew McKernan
When it comes time to deciding what kind of water treatment unit you need for your home or business it can get a little confusing. There are so many different methods out there that filter water. Each of the different units has different purposes. For example there is different methods of water treatment like water softening, water conditioning, water filtering, reverse osmosis, water ionizing or ultra violet water purifying.
In this article we are just going to compare two different types of units. The two types that we are going to compare today are the water filters and the water conditioning systems. First I will explain how each unit works to help give you a better idea of what unit may be best to suit your needs.
The first type we are going to explain is the water conditioning systems. The first thing that you should know is that water conditioning and water softening are the same units. They may be listed as two separate units but they are the same.
Water conditioners work by removing or neutralizing the minerals in the water. This unit is not a water filter. The reason you may need this type of unit is because you may have scale build up or hard water. It is recommended to get a unit that uses salt. Once again this unit doesn’t filter the water it just removes the minerals that cause hard water and scale build up.
If you have hard water and do not get some type of treatment for it, it will begin to destroy the appliances that use water. Getting the proper unit may cost a little bit of money up front but it will save you money in the end. One big way that it will save you money is by extending the life of your clothes. Your clothes will not lose their shape as quickly and it will help to stop the fading of the colors.
Next we are going to go over water filtering units. What a water filtration unit does is it removes things from the water. Some of the things that it removes are chlorine, heavy metals, dirt, and/or other contaminants.
Keep in mind that a water filtration unit doesn’t remove minerals. One example of why you may need a water filter is if your water smells like rotten eggs. The reason that your water has the foul smell and taste is because there is hydrogen sulfide and sulfur bacteria in your water. It is usually found in well water.
Some reasons that it is beneficial to have this type of unit in your home are because it is better for your health. With this unit you can control the toxins that are in your water. Not only have that but your water tasted better. It will help you save money as well. You will be using less soap because you won’t need as much to form a lather.
